THE MOVIE INDUSTRY
For more than a century, watching movies has been a common pastime. The Cinématograph, a camera and projector invented by the French brothers Louis and Auguste Lumière in 1895, revolutionized cinema. Since then, the movie industry has grown to be worth billions of dollars.
The United States is one of the world's biggest movie producers, with Hollywood being the center of the industry. It is home to many famous movie studios such as Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures, as well as many classic movies over the years. For instance, Steven Spielberg's science fiction E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial tells the story of a boy who becomes friends with an alien lost on Earth.
The movie business has faced several difficulties recently. As streaming services are catching on, some people prefer to watch movies on the Internet at home rather than in theaters. Restrictions from the COVID-19 outbreak have also forced many theaters to close down.
Despite these challenges, movies continue to be a popular form of entertainment around the world. From action to romance, to animation, there is always something out there for everyone.
